Chrome help - Solved Empty Chrome help - Solved

EDIT: Finally found the cause of the problem. After reading through hundreds of reasons for Chrome not being able to download, I came across someone suggesting that it could be down to McAfee site adviser interrupting the download. True enough once I uninstalled that, chrome was all good.

Please don't tell me to google it because I have done to no avail. Figured it was worth a shot here.

For a few weeks I've been getting a popup on my chrome. Something along the lines of chrome not being able to update automatically and suggesting that I have to do it manually. I tried to redownload chrome and would get the message "Installation failed due to unspecified error. If Google Chrome is currently running, please close it and try again." Needless to say I've done this with chrome (and every other program) closed.

Yesterday I uninstalled chrome and used internet explorer to try and download it from scratch and have got the same message so I'm now without chrome, with or without annoying popups. Oops.

I've read in a few places that chrome might not have been able to uninstall entirely but can't seem to find any folders that remnants of chrome might be lurking in though I have no idea where I should be looking.

I'm an absolute retard with a computer so if you're going to try and help I'm going to need really dumbed down step by step instructions.

yeah thanks. I'd tried the first, second and fifth suggestion. The third and fourth require downloads, which from my experience don't work and are full of malware. The guy who posted that also reported them to be ineffective so I don't think it's worth giving a shot.

The solution that he found isn't one that I can replicate since I haven't downloaded the google search app so it was presumably a different issue with the same problem.

Nonetheless, thanks for the post. Rockin' it out on internet explorer right now.
