Players leaving doesn't necessarily mean that the game isn't getting healthier.
I agree that during the gambling scene, the game wasn't even played as it was supposed to be. The game became a casino instead of the old R.unescape that I once used to enjoy. I don't play anymore, but I could imagine it being R.unescape, the game that is played like it's supposed to.
