Ohh, I think in every country over the world it's called "football" as it's an universal sport. American Football however, is only played frequently in America, so they call it "soccer" instead to not get confused with their nationalistic sport.

I guess that makes sense because "American" sports like football are really popular here but not in other parts of the world, whereas it is flipped for soccer.
