Going Hiking on wednesday and thursday, then canoeing back down from where i came on the river on friday. see u lot on Saturday morning

Sorry Rand, but I'm going to have to disagree with you on this :/

This thread is in the correct section because he's telling us where he's going for a trip and even more specifically telling us what he's doing for his trip which leaves the members to talk about what he's doing in his life for fun.

Intro/Farewell is for those who just joined the forums/leaves and says goodbye without returning with all those "goodbye, miss you" posts.

If that's the case, no; it isn't off-topic. There's a whole section dedicated to departures & this sort of thing, making this thread completely on-topic.

Whether or not you agree with that is irrelevant (I don't even buy it, lol); there's a more appropriate section for this thread and I don't see why it isn't there.

That's only one of its usages. You'd also typically say farewell to someone who's going on a journey somewhere (e.g. 'fare thee well') which makes it even more sensical for Jaycubb's thread to be there. His description of what he's doing doesn't negate the original purpose of the thread either, which is to tell us he's going to be away (everything else is off-topic spam, l0lolol00l...)
