I've had this problem, too. When you've had your mouse for a while, it'll do this and the best solution is to get a new mouse.

oh, when that happens it means you have to clean out your mouse. Sometimes you can displace what's causing the double click by blowing on it really hard. I used a very thin item to clean out the dust/human skin particles/dirt and clean it sufficiently to eliminate my double click. I might have taken it apart a bit using a screwdriver and blow on it really hard, but the little clicking mechanism had to be cleaned out.
At first it was so confusing i even thought it was a software issue lol.
